Time has come to start working on wheels, the RS wheels look ok as a semi period accessory, but they don't scream originality

So I have to make some Mk1 Ghia Ronal's but in 16" to envelope the BMW brakes

I started off buy buying a cheap but huge gap bed lathe, cut 7" more out of the gap, and got to making a 16" faceplate to hold the Range Rover Classic wheels.

Started off with a hunk of  Steel plate I picked up locally for £30

Face Plate thingy I had with the lathe looked perfect for the job

Bolted it up to the slides in the 4 jaw chuck, so I could turn out the center ready to accept the center.

I then jury rigged my old nasty pillar drill, so I could drill and tap the plate radially.

I then cut down an old wheel balancer, and welded this to the center for holding the centers of the wheels.

Set of Ronal's I got of a guy on Facebook, that I had delivered to work, so I could utilise works 9" grinder to cut the rears out.

Then mounted up the centers on my new jig, and turned them down to index them.

These will actually clear the brakes properly, so I can fit new pads when needed, unlike the RS alloys, these will actually clear the BMW callipers.

Vogue alloy test fit on the new jig.

Bought myself a set of 18" inside callipers to take out a bit of the guess work.

Cut the centers out, and decided how deep to lay the centers in

4 clamps to hold, and 4 clamps to adjust and center.

Inside Dia is 1mm smaller than the OD of the centers.

Smaller ID on the hoops allowed me to do a heat shrink interference fit.

5 ready to go to the blasters, awaiting these back so I can tig up the rears.

Trial spin up to make sure its all running true.

First fit up of an old tyre to make sure the valve etc seals, and so I could fit it on the car for photos.

This is the position it sits in the arch.

And this is a picture of the RS alloy on the other side, Pretty close if I do say so myself....nice bit of guesswork.

So, Just waiting for these to return from the blasters and I'll give an update with a picture of all 4 on the car.
